Greetings

Greetings to all residents of Villages at Grassy Creek Central:

We wish to extend a warm welcome to any new owners and residents that have chosen to make Villages at Grassy Creek their new place of residence.  We are glad you are here and hope to meet you around the community and at our annual HOA meetings.  To our established residents: thank you, as always, for making Villages at Grassy Creek an exceptional neighborhood to reside.  We encourage you to join us at our next annual HOA meeting, too.

Autumn is in full swing, and our community is an active one!  Many of our residents are enjoying the change of season, as the colors begin to change and the leaves fall to the ground.  There's a chill in the air, too, and since we just had our final community garage sale of the season...it's time to prepare for the new seasons awaiting us.

Pedestrian and traffic safety is important.   Please slow down while driving through the neighborhood and take note of the posted speed limit of 25 MPH along Blue Grass Parkway and Round Lake Road.   Be extra aware of what's going on around you, as you drive through our neighborhood because there are people on the road all day long, and please be prepared to stop suddenly if a child darts out into the road in front of you.   With school in full swing, we also remind you to please respectfully stop for any school buses with flashing red lights.

In response to many homeowners sharing their concerns with us regarding drivers that are speeding dangerously throughout our neighborhood and failing to stop at stop signs; in addition to some recent reports of homeowners' sheds being broken into and property stolen during the night this past summer, you may have noticed more police cars patrolling the neighborhood.  Our hopes are that the increase of police presence would deter speeding/reckless driving, theft, and vandalism in our neighborhood.  As we continue to explore our options in this area, we will keep you updated.

We have been researching affordable and environmentally friendly techniques to help clean up the stagnant ponds in our neighborhood.  To ensure that our ponds remain healthy and the algae are kept at a minimum, we contacted several aquatic environment experts and sought their advice.  They all recommended an aeration system to keep the water from being stagnant.  Benefits of an aeration system include adding oxygen to the water and surface agitation.  This will help to reduce the foul pond odor, improve water clarity, be a healthier environment for fish and other pond wildlife, and discourage mosquitoes to breed.

We are pleased to inform you that, after contacting several water aeration companies and comparing prices and values to get the best deal, in mid-July we placed four pumps in the east pond and six in the west pond.  They are working well and serving their purpose.

We would like to encourage you, when placing your trash out by the road for pickup, to keep all trash bags inside an appropriate trash receptacle with its lid secured.  Please refrain from placing your bags directly curbside.  We are finding that wildlife is tearing open the bags that are left outside of the trash receptacles and happily distributing the trash throughout the neighborhood, in addition to the litter blowing in the wind.  We've recently witnessed and heard stories of birds, raccoons, and a chicken-wing loving opossum ripping into exposed trash bags at night and making unwanted messes.  Making use of your trash bins will make this more difficult for these critters to do this.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter and helping us keep our community clean.

Did you know that your HOA has a website full of up-to-date information for you?
At  http://villagesatgrassycreek.blogspot.com, you will find our neighborhood blog with announcements, annual meeting reminders, neighborhood by-laws and covenants, helpful documents/forms, and contact information and links to the Mainstreet Management Group.  We would like to use our website as a platform to make Villages at Grassy Creek the very best it can be for you and your family.  We encourage you to visit often, tell us what you like and what you would like to add or have changed.  We welcome your thoughts and ideas for ways to maintain our wonderful neighborhood.   Your opinion matters to us!

While this newsletter references some issues we are having in the neighborhood, we want to make it clear that one thing we do not lack is homeowners who truly care about the community and their individual homes.   We appreciate the efforts each of you make to keep our neighborhood a beautiful and safe place to live.

Thank you for your consideration and active participation in maintaining the quality of life here in Villages at Grassy Creek Central.
